BYBLIOS Project Dissemination in Portugal: Promoting Inclusive Libraries with Desincoop
As part of its dissemination and outreach activities, the BYBLIOS project was presented in Portugal through an initiative promoted by project partner Desincoop, with the involvement of local stakeholders and organisations active in the field of disability inclusion and social participation.
The dissemination activity took place within the framework of the Seminário da Inclusão Social de Pessoas com Deficiência, held in Guimarães, a space dedicated to dialogue, awareness-raising and exchange of practices on inclusion, accessibility and equal opportunities. The event brought together professionals, organisations, and members of the local community interested in innovative approaches to social inclusion.
During the event, DEsincoop presented the objectives and key results of the BYBLIOS project, with a particular focus on the role of school and local libraries as inclusive community hubs. The discussion highlighted how libraries can move beyond their traditional functions to become environments that support learning, social participation and pathways to employment for people with cognitive disabilities.
Special attention was given to the BYBLIOS inclusive internship model, which aims to facilitate meaningful work experiences in libraries through adapted tasks, supportive mentoring and structured learning pathways. This model was presented as a concrete and transferable practice that can contribute to improving employability, autonomy and self-confidence among people with disabilities.
The Portuguese dissemination activity also created an opportunity to reflect on how BYBLIOS outcomes can be integrated into local contexts, strengthening collaboration between libraries, social cooperatives, educational institutions and public authorities. Participants expressed strong interest in the project’s approach and its potential to inspire more inclusive practices within cultural and educational services.
Through initiatives such as this, Desincoop plays a key role in ensuring that BYBLIOS results reach local communities and contribute to building a more inclusive vision of libraries across Europe—one where access, participation and professional opportunities are truly open to all.
