Recent event: “Inclusion and diversity in school libraries”
On September 12, 2025, BYBLIOS hosted an important meeting in Guimarães (“Inclusão e diversidade nas bibliotecas escolares”), held at Biblioteca Municipal Raul Brandão.
Participants included:
The Vice-President of the Education Board of the Municipality of Guimarães, Adelina Paula Pinto (opening)
The Secretary of State for Social Action and Inclusion, Maria Clara Marques Mendes (closing)
Local institutions like Desincoop, the Agrupamento de Escolas Francisco de Holanda, CERCIGUI, and the Municipal Library
The agenda included presentations from trainees about their experience in libraries and the obstacles to employment; round tables on the experience of BYBLIOS; discussions on inclusive public policy; and reflections on the role of school libraries today and into the future.
Libraries are often one of the few public spaces always present, even in small or remote communities, making them key actors in promoting lifelong learning, social inclusion, and community development. BYBLIOS envisions libraries not just as physical spaces, but as methodological and relational spaces where people with disabilities are valued and supported.
If you want to learn more about BYBLIOS, get involved, or see how to replicate its approaches in your own community, feel free to contact us or check out our publications and results. Let’s work together to build libraries that are inclusive, empowering, and impactful for everyone.
