Libraries as engines of inclusion and sustainability
We are proud to align the BYBLIOS project with the global vision promoted by IFLA – the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. The recently published IFLA report, “Inclusive and Transformative Library Services for Sustainable Development and Recovery”, offers powerful insights into the evolving role of libraries as agents of equity, empowerment, and community transformation.
Why it matters to BYBLIOS
The BYBLIOS project shares IFLA’s vision: libraries are no longer just places to access knowledge—they are platforms for social inclusion, innovation, and lifelong learning, especially for those who have historically been excluded.
In particular, the report emphasizes:
Libraries as spaces for inclusive employment and training
The need for accessible and adaptive services
The importance of community engagement in co-designing services
The potential of libraries to support sustainable development goals (SDGs)
These priorities are at the heart of BYBLIOS. Through our pilot experiences across Europe, we are:
Offering internships and training for adults with intellectual disabilities
Supporting library staff with new digital tools and inclusive practices
Creating a model where libraries are active players in local development
Bridging the gap between education, work, and inclusion
We invite all our partners and readers to explore the IFLA report as a valuable resource for understanding how library services can—and must—evolve.
Let’s continue building a Europe where libraries leave no one behind.
