Internships in Full Swing!

The BYBLIOS project is bringing inclusion to life through real-world library internships for adults with intellectual disabilities. From Italy to Portugal, participants are gaining experience, confidence, and new skills — proving that inclusive libraries are workplaces of the future.

In Portugal, José is thriving at Biblioteca Raul Brandão in Guimarães. In Italy, Rosa and Alessia are continuing their journey in Spoltore. These stories show what happens when trust, training, and opportunity come together.

“Every gesture matters in the library: scanning, organising, welcoming. Today, we helped bring this space to life as a place of discovery and connection. Between shelves and library cards, the girls are gaining confidence every day—handling loans and returns with a smile, ready to welcome every reader. Behind every borrowed book lies a small, great effort: scanners, codes, labels, and a lot of dedication. This, too, is the library—quiet organisation in the service of reading. Loans, returns, and a bit more autonomy with each passing day. This is also how we grow—in the library and beyond. Today we arranged books, read codes, and found the right spot for each volume. Because order, too, tells a story. A special moment: with scanner in hand, each book finds its reader. The library comes alive through small everyday gestures.”
